    In preparation for the Miss Universe contest, girls from the various provinces of Congo-Kinshasa vied, earlier this month, for the coveted title of Miss Congo 1971.

    The Commissioner General of Tourism, Victor Njoli, presided over the contest and acted as the chief judge. Eventually, many of the contestants were eliminated, until only five finalists remained.

    After much deliberation, Martine Mualuke, was selected as Miss Congo for 1971. Last year's title-holder was there for the presentation.

    SYNOPSIS: Before a large crowd in Kinshasa, entries from many provinces vied for the coveted title of Miss Congo 1971, earlier this month. Each contestant walked down the long ramp that could lead to the title.

    Although the appreciative audience applauded all contestants, only one could eventually garner the special attention from the judges, to claim the title. The Commissioner General of Tourism, Victor Njoli, presided over the contest and acted as chief judge.

    On the preliminary ballot, five finalists were chosen from the many entries. After much deliberation, Mr. Njoli, handed in the name of the winner. Martine Mualuke is Miss Congo for 1971, and will represent her country in the Miss Universe beauty pageant.
