RATIONING OF PETROL HAS COME TO AN END IN ZAMBIA. FROM NOW ON MOTORISTS CAN?

  • Description

RATIONING OF PETROL HAS COME TO AN END IN ZAMBIA. FROM NOW ON MOTORISTS CAN BUY UNLIMITED QUANTITIES OF REGULAR PETROL. FUEL RATIONING WAS INTRODUCED SHORTLY AFTER RHODESIA MADE ITS UNILATERAL DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE IN NOVEMBER, 1965.

SINCE UDI ZAMBIAN MOTORISTS HAVE BEEN BUYING ALL THEIR PETRO WITH COUPONS. THE COUPONS WILL CONTINUE TO BE USED FOR PREMIUM PETROL AND DIESEL FUEL, BUT THEY ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO BE ABOLISHED SOON. THIS MEANS THAT DRIVERS ARE RESTRICTED TO 20 GALLONS OF PREMIUM PETROL, BUT CAN BUY AS MUCH REGULAR PETROL AS THEY NEED FOR THEIR EXCESS REQUIREMENTS.

PRESIDENT KAUNDA ANNOUNCED THE END OF RATIONING ON THURSDAY, DURING A SPEECH IN MULUNGUSHI. PRESIDENT KAUNDA SAID THE NATION SHOULD PAY TRIBUTE TO ALL THOSE WHOSE HARD WORK OVER THE 21 MONTHS OF RATIONING HAD SECURED THE FUEL SUPPLIES.
