The United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Mr. Mennen Williams, visited President Kasavubu in Leopoldville on Feb. 28th.
Mr. Williams, who is making a tour of Africa, was in Leopoldville for a 5-day stay. He was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador Timberlake when he met Mr. Kasavubu, with whom he had political talks.
There has been strong criticism of Mr. Williams in America for his "Africa for Africans" speech, which he made in Kenya. But President Kennedy replied by strongly defending his African Affairs Assistant Secretary.
