Background: Australia's challenger for the Americas Cup, Gretel 2, was loaded aboard the freighter, New York Star 2, in Sydney on Monday bound for the United States.
Gretel 2 is due to compete against the French 12 metre yacht, La France, in a series of elimination races off Newport, Rhode Island at the end of August.
The winner will race the American yacht, which has still to be chosen.
Gretel 2 will be in Newport by the end of July. This will give her crew three weeks in training before they meet the French contender.
Before the Gretel 2 left Australia, the freighter which is transporting her, was equipped with special cradles to protect the yacht during her voyage.
Her designer, Alan Payne was at the dock to see her hoisted on board. Two crewmen are accompanying the Gretel 2 to the United States.
