  • Description

High winds troubled the 69 cyclists from seven countries who started from Brighton on Monday (29 May) in the first stage of the Round-Britain Milk Race. The race, an annual event, is sponsored by Britain's Milk Marketing Board.

British wrestler Jackie Palle, who's a cyclist himself, waved a Union Jack to start the race.

The winner of the first stage to Swindon was Jan de Bore of the Netherlands and the Dutch team as a whole were also in the overall lead.

When the race finishes in Blackpool on June 10, the cyclists will have covered over 1100 miles (1771 kms).
