An 85th minute goal by Ibrahim Sunday pushed defending champion Kumasi Asante Kotoko into the final of the African Clubs' Soccer
championships with a 1-0 victory over Accra Great Olympics at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday (21 November).

Kotoko, who drew 1-1 with Olympics in the first leg of the all-Ghanaian semi-final a week before, will now meet Cannon Yaounde of Cameroun for the final.

Olympic again had the edge in Sunday's match, but Kotoko -- spurred on by a crowd of 50,000 -- launched a furious attack near the end of the game and broke the deadlock when Ibrahim Sunday chipped home a free kick taken by half back Odames.

SYNOPSIS: At the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday, Accra's Great Olympic team -- seen here playing from left to right-- kicked off for the semi-final of the African Club's Soccer championships against Kumasi Asante. More than 50,000 people attended the match, the first time two teams from one country have reached the semi-finals of the club championships.

The two teams had drawn a week before in the first leg of the semi-final and Sunday's match proved to be a hard-fought battle, with both sides making repeated attacks down the field. Olympics were hard-punched in the closing stages of the first half as Asante launched an attacking move that brought the crowd to its feet, but some fine goal-keeping left the half-time score at 0 - 0.

In the early stages of the second half, Olympics again attacked down the field, but the shot went wide. Asante then changed their pattern of play to keep pace with the game and opened their style after clearing from a corner. In the dying minutes of the game there was a foul near the Olympic goal and Asante were awarded the free kick. But the shot went wide and the game looked like finishing in another draw.

The Asante launched an all-out attack and striker Ibrahim Sunday chipped in to make the score 1-0. Asante now go on to meet Cannon Yaounde of Cameroun in the final.
