    THE GHANAIAN GOVERNMENT HAS BEGUN THE SECOND PHASE OF A CAMPAIGN DESIGNED TO CONTROL AND ERADICATE SMALLPOX AND MEASLES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THE FIRST PHASE WAS COMPLETED IN 1967.

    THE CAMPAIGN IS A JOINT EFFORT OF THE GHANAIAN GOVERNMENT AND THE UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

    A VACCINATION TEAM WORKING IN THE ACCRA-TEMA AREA, HAS SO FAR VACCINATED 59,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS AGAINST SMALLPOX, AND NEARLY 6,000 AGAINST MEASLES.

    VACCINES, TRUCKS, MACHINERY, EQUIPMENT AND EXPERT ADVICE FOR THE PROJECT ARE BEING PROVIDED BY THE U.S. ORGANISATION.

    THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA IS PROVIDING PERSONNEL AND THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION IS SUPERVISING THE CAMPAIGN.

    CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE CONTROL AREA ARE THE MAIN TARGET FOR THE CAMPAIGN, WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY COVER ALL THE COUNTRY'S ADULT POPULATION AS WELL.
