  • Description

The guided missile destroyer London - which will be one of the most lethal warships in the Royal Navy is being commissioned at Wallsend this week. She's cost GBP7 million pounds and she's commanded by Captain Joseph BARTOSIK who served in Polish destroyers during the war. The London carries two kinds of guided missiles - Seacat and Seaslug and a Wessex helicopter which fires homing torpedoes. She's equipped with a mass of modern machinery and armaments - and she'll also be one of the most comfortable ships in the navy. There are bunks instead of hammocks, television on the mess decks and catering on the scale of a first class hotel with a big choice of dishes.
