  • Description

Egyptian President Sadat has announced he will let nothing obstruct the reconvening of Middle East peace talks in Geneva. At the new session of the Egyptian Parliament on Wednesday (November 9), he said he was prepared to go to the end of the world, even to the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) if necessary, to get the Geneva conference reconvened. Among president Sadat's recent schedule of moves for the Geneva talks was a round of discussions this week with king Hussein of Jordan.

SYNOPSIS: President Sadat and King Hussein are among the hardest working advocates seeking ways of overcoming the obstacles delaying a return to the conference table. The two leaders have been conferring independently with other Middle East heads of state and were able to exchange information on Arab attitudes to a new round of peace talks.

While President Sadat and King Hussein were meeting, Palestine Liberation Organisation leader Yasser Arafat was also talking in Cairo with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ismail Fahmy. One obstacle preventing the Geneva talks has been PLO representation, as israel will not approve its having an official presence there.
