SYNOPSIS: Deacons, Priests, and clergymen assembled at the Grand Palace in Addis Ababa on Tuesday. They were there to take part in the annual festival of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, "Teketsle Tsigie". Similar celebrations took place throughout Ethiopia.

Among those attending the celebration was Ethiopian Emperor, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie. The religious celebration is held each year to commemorator the arrival in Ethiopia of the segment of the true cross on which Christ was crucified. Also present at the ceremony were members of the Imperial Family, Archbishops, Cabinet Ministers and other Government officials.

The festival of "Taketsle Tsigie" precedes by one week another national religious day... the feast of "Atse Maskal". On that day, according to the belief in the ancient and colourful Orthodox custom, people throughout Ethiopia commemorate the finding of the true cross.
