THEY ARE MRS. PAULA HARTNESS, MRS. SANDY McELHANON, MRS. BONNIE SINGLETON AND MRS. JOY JEFFREY - ALL FROM DALLAS, TEXAS. TODAY THEY SPOKE TO THE PRESS AT THEIR HOTEL.

    THE HUSBANDS OF THE FOUR WOMEN - CAPTAIN GREGG HARTNESS, MAJOR MICHAEL McELHANON, CAPTAIN JERRY SINGLE TO AND CAPTAIN ROBERT JEFFREY - HAVE BEEN MISSING FOR PERIODS RANGING FROM EIGHT MONTHS TO FOUR YEARS.

    ABOUT 1,400 U.S. SERVICEMEN ARE LISTED AS MISSING IN ACTION OR PRISONERS IN VIETNAM - BUT ONLY 600 ARE THOUGHT TO BE ALIVE. THE USUAL ANSWER GIVEN BY THE NORTH VIETNAMESE TO OFFICIAL INQUIRIES ON THESE MEN IS THAT U.S. AIRMEN ARE THE AGGRESSORS AND LITTLE OR NO INFORMATION IS FORTHCOMING. FOUR WIVES HOPE THAT THE MORE PERSONAL APPEAL WILL HAVE MORE SUCCESS IN OBTAINING FROM HANOI A LIST OF U.S. WAR PRISONERS HELD IN THE NORTH - INCLUDING THEIR HUSBANDS.
