    General Adolf Heusinger, 63-year-old chief of the West German Armed Forces and next chairman of the Permanent Military Committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, arrived at Northolt Airport, London, U.K., Jan 18. He was given full Service honours - and inspected a British Royal Air Force guard of honour at the airport.

    He is to make a three-day tour of Service establishments in Britain. The most important post previously held by a German general in NATO is that of Commander of Allied Land Forces in Europe, held by General Hans Speidel.

    General Heusinger joined the Army in 1915. He was a World War One prisoner of war in Britain, where he learned English, In 1932, he joined the German General Staff, in which he served until July 20, 1944, when the attempt was made on Hitler's life. He was then sitting next to Hitler when the bomb exploded and was wounded.

    He was arrested by the Secret Service during the investigation of the plot, but later released. Since 1951, when he was made a military adviser to the Federal Republic, he has been one of West Germany's leading military planners.
