Background: Troops of the United States Army's 1st Air Cavalry Division uncovered a Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Arms and ammunition cache about 14 miles (20 kms) inside Cambodia recently.
The discovery of the arms cache came after fighting last month between American troops and Communist forces in the area.
The weapons and ammunition were found in a system of tunnels and bunkers. Troops removed the supplies which were taken away by helicopters and trucks to South Vietnam. The arms cache is one of a number found by American and South Vietnamese troops during the sweep through the Cambodian sanctuary areas bordering on South Vietnam.
The United States Government claims the quantities of arms and ammunition found in Cambodia have seriously affected Communist ability to mount an offensive in South Vietnam.
