Background: West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer was filmed by VISNEWS June 14 addressing a conference of the Christian Social Union, the Bavarian wing of the West German ruling Christian Democratic Party, in Munich.
The expected clash between Chancellor Adenauer and Vice-Chancellor Erhard did not take place. Although present at the first days session, Dr.Erhard chose to visit relatives on the second day when Dr Adenauer was present.
Chancellor Adenauer spoke mainly on international affairs. He was still hoping the Geneva conferences would bring some small success to justify a summit meeting. He rejected the idea of thinned-out military zones in Europe, and expressed misgivings about British policy. He indicated that his concern was shared by other members of the NATO.
He made only one reference to his recent decision to stay in office, when he said "A thick skin is a gift of God."
