    HILL, DRIVING A LOTUS FORD, COMPLETED THE 80-LAP RACE OF 156 MILES (251 KMS) IN TWO HOURS AND 32.3 SECONDS FOR AN AVERAGE OF SPEED OF 125.238 KPH (77.81 MPH).

    SECOND PLACE IN THE RACE WENT TO RICHARD ATTWOOD OF BRITAIN IN A BRM. HE WAS 2.2 SECONDS BEHIND HILL IN WHAT WAS HIS DEBUT IN THREE LITRE FORMULA ONE RACING.

    OF THE 16 STARTERS ONLY FIVE FINISHED THE RACE, HELD IN THE WINDING STREETS OF THE PRINCIPALITY.

    HILL, WHO TWO WEEKS AGO WON THE SPANISH GRAND PRIX, NOW HAS 24 POINTS IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. HIS NEAREST RIVAL IS THE REIGNING CHAMPION, DENIS HULME, OF NEW ZEALAND, WITH TEN.

    ATTWOOD GAVE HILL A TREMENDOUS FIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN THE LAST LAP WHEN HE SET A LAP RECORD OF 128.513 KPH (7985 MPH). THE 11 DROP-OUTS ALL ACCURRED IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE RACE - VICTIMS OF A SPATE OF BREAKDOWNS AND MINOR ACCIDENTS.

    THE MONACO RACE WAS THE THIRD OF THE 12-EVENT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
