  • Description

It was announced from Buckingham Palace, Aug 7 that the Queen is expecting a baby early next year. The news came the day after the Queen, Prince Philip, and their children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, left Euston Station, London, (Aug 6) by train for Balmoral for their summer holiday.

A Palace spokesman said the Queen will "undertake no further public engagements."
"Her Majesty regrets the disappointment which her unability to carry out her projected tour in West Africa, may bring her people in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia." The Queen and Duke have also cancelled their visit to the Shetland and Orkney Islands in Scotland, scheduled for next week.

Commander Coville, Palace press secretary said both the Queen and Prince Philip have always been anxious to have more children and are very happy about it. "They regret that it means the destruction of their visits to Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Libera and the Orkneys and Shetlands."
On her return from Canada after six-week tour, the Queen was seen by her medical advisers, who state that she is in good health.
