A tight security cordon surrounded the Val Duchesse in Brussels on Monday (29 January) as Senor Lopez Bravo....Spain's Foreign Minister...and European Economic Community officials signed a new trade treaty. A trade agreement between Spain and the E.E.C. has been in effect for some time, but Monday's treaty has now adapted and brought it up to date to suit the enlarged community. The community has undertaken to negotiate global trading arrangements with any countries seeking them. Spain has closer associations with the EEC than most other countries currently seeking trading links, as it has shown considerable interest in joining the Common Market. Commission President, M. Ortoli, and Belgium's new Foreign Minister, M. Renaat van Elslande, signed the amended agreement with Senor Bravo.
