  • Description

The Second Vice-Chairman of the Provisional Military Administrative Council of Ethiopia, Lieutenant Colonel Atnafu Abate, said the "Ethiopian Revolution" was "gaining momentum every day and was well on the road to victory" on Thursday (25 December).

Lt. Col. Abate was speaking at a seminar for chief administrators, police commissioners and representatives of "development-oriented ministries".

The three day seminar is being held in Addis Ababa at the headquarters of the Civilian Advisory Body in the former Parliament Building.

The second Vice Chairman told these attending the seminar that Ethiopia needed to find speedy solutions "to the many problems now facing the country".

He said such solutions should come from a "thorough study of the nature of the society and the difficulties confronting it".

Lt. Col. Abate warned, however, that "any hastily produced solution without proper diagnosis of the causes was bound to be counter productive".

The former Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie, was deposed after revolution in September 1974.

Since then the country has been ruled by a Provisional Military Council.
