  • Description

In the United States President Carter has ordered increased petrol supplies for California, the state hardest hit by the country's current fuel crisis, following a meeting with Californian Governor Jerry Brown on Wednesday (16 May). But the President said he had found no evidence that oil companies were illegally withholding supplies from the market to force up prices. Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani, in the United States on a private lecture tour, told newsmen on Monday (14 May) that the current shortages had been widely forecast and would continue until the country took corrective action. A report from NBC's Bill Lynch.

SYNOPSIS: After a week of rationing in Los Angeles, the petrol queues remain. Sheikh Yamani has promised his country will resist a further price rise at next month's (June) OPEC meeting, but he offered little comfort on the present crisis.
