Background: Indian Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi made a brief airport visit to Nairobi on Sunday (6 Sept.) on her way to the Summit Conference of Non-Aligned Countries in Zambia. Earlier a bomb scare had forced Mrs. Gandhi's aircraft back to Bombay shortly after it took off from the city's Santa Cruz airport. A thorough search revealed no sign of a bomb.
The Indian leader was met by Miss Margaret Kenyatta, mayor of Nairobi. as well as government ministers and a delegation from the Indian community in Nairobi.
A number of Kenyan Asians were delighted to see Mrs. Gandhi at the airport. There has been friction between Kenyan Asians and the Government in recent months over trade licences and work permits, and India has had to consider the question if repatriation of Indians whose ties with Kenya go back many back many generations.
