SHARIF: "Sadat's proposed visit to the occupied territories would mean that he is recognising tactically and officially the Zionist structures established by imperialism and towards Zionism's own culture. This in itself is a clear blow to the ambitions and interests of the Arab masses in general and the Palestinian Arab masses in particular. We regard this as a test that would lead to recapitulation; something that the Arab masses, the Palestinian Arab masses, will fight against and would not accept."

REPORTER: "What is your reaction to the proposed visit coming at a time when the Israelis have bombed villages in Southern Lebanon?"

SHARIF: "The Israelis have always tried to liquidate not only the Palestinian revolution, but to liquidate materially the Palestinians.

The latest raids had hit directly civilian targets. The Israelis know very well what kind of targets they were hitting. The casualties, which is more than hundreds killed - women, children, old men - were civilians and not only civilians, but Lebanese civilians. The Israeli enemy has tried since 1967 and is still trying to liquidate the Palestinian revolution through the use of the tools of war supplied by the United States to Israel. Our stand will be a continuation of the present against imperialism, the Israelis' plot. We will not stop our action to liberate Palestine. We will continue the struggle and action no matter what costs such action will mean."

Background: There has been an unfavourable reaction from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine to the planned visit to Jerusalem by Egypt's President sadat. PFLP spokesman Bassam Abu Sharif told Visnews correspondent Anthony Steward in Beirut on Wednesday (16 November) that the proposed address of President Sadat to the Knesset in Jerusalem would be a clear blow to Arab interests and ambitions. He also accused the Israelis of trying to liquidate Palestinians, but emphasised the PFLP would continue their fight - no matter the cost.
