    A priceless pair of ceremonial wedding horns from Lamu, Kenya, were flown from Nairobi to London on Saturday (4 September) for repairs.

    The horns -- both about six feet long, one of ivory and the other of brass -- are known a "siwas" by the people of Lamu. The origin of one of the horns can be traced back over 450 years and the other to 1680. They have been handed down for generations by the Swahili aristocracy of the region and now form a port of the unique collection of Africana treasures at the recently opened National Museum in Lamu.

    SYNOPSIS: A pair of priceless ceremonial wedding horns -- one of ivory and the other of brass -- left Nairobi on Saturday for London, where they are to undergo repair Kenya's Minister for Education, Doctor Taita Towett, accompanied the horns on their journey from the recently opened National Museum of Lamu to the airport. Mr. Richard Leakey, Director of Kenya's National Museum, was also at the airport to see the priceless treasures safely of (PAUSE)
    The origin of one of the horns can be traced back over 450 years, and the other to about 1680. They have been handed down for generations by the Swahili aristocrat of the rigor and now form a part of the unique collection of Africana treasures at Lamu's museum. They were shipped in a first class cabin to London, where they will remain for about three months.
