  • Description

Violence is on the increase in Argentina. Since the death of President peron, factions from both their right and left of his superficially-united party have been warring with each other.

Bombings, shootings, strikes or demonstrations are becoming daily occurrences. The world's only female President, Maria Estel Peron -widow of the late President -called a crisis meeting of political and military chiefs in Buenos Aires on Wednesday (18 september) after bomb blasts and killings claimed at least six people in two days. Senora Peron is supported in office by right-wingers of the Peronist Party.

On Monday (16 September) at least 40 bombs went off throughout the country. But the cities worst hit by the blood-lust ravaging Argentina are the capital Buenos Aires and the industrial city of Cordoba.

In Buenos Aires, public transport came to a standstill on Tuesday (17 September) when the transport union ordered its men out to express disgust at the killing of the former Deputy Governor of Cordoba, Senor Atilio Lopez, who had been Secretary General of the union until last July.

In Cordoba, a school was demolished by an explosion and the provincial government house sprayed with machine-gun fire.

The funeral of Dr. Curuchet -- a left-wing lawyer killed by right-wing terrorists -- was the occasion for a demonstration by about 10,000 people in Cordoba. Senor Augustin Tosco, leader of the left-wing unions in Cordoba, wa among the pall-bearers.
