    The touring Cosmos soccer team from the United States on Saturday (10 September) won a friendly match in Tokyo against the top Japanese side Furukawa Electricity Company. It was the first of two farewell matches in Japan for the Brazilian superstar, Pele, who's been playing with Cosmos.

    SYNOPSIS: The day before the first match, Pele spoke to newsmen about the farewell tour he is making with Cosmos team before he finally stops playing on October,after one of the most distinguished careers in world soccer.Also with the Cosmos team was West German champion Franz Beckenbauer, who spoke to newsmen in German about why he'd gone to the United States.

    Beckenbauer, who was the Captain of the West German World Champion side in 1974, said he was 32 years old and thought he'd go over to the United States to help American football get off the ground.

    However the Americans had got to know the game so fast he'd been really surprised.

    Beckenbauer said that players of the ability of Pele, then Chinaglia,and later Carlos Albert,joining Cosmos had really helped to attract the crowds.

    Then Pele spoke about leaving the game.
