    MORE THAN 8,000 DEMONSTRATORS LED BY THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE JAPANESE SOCIALIST PARTY, MR TOMOMI NARITA, ASSEMBLED IN TOKYO YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) TO PROTEST AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT'S DECISION TO ALLOW AN AMERICAN NUCLEAR-POWERED SUBMARINE TO USE THE SASEBO PORT IN JAPAN.THEY WERE ALSO PROTESTING AGAINST AMERICAN ACTION IN SOUTH VIETNAM.

    THE SOCIALIST PARTY IS NOW THE SECOND LARGEST IN JAPAN AND MR NARITA DEMANDED THAT THE AMERICAN SUBMARINE SHOULD LEAVE THE BASE IMMEDIATELY.HE SAID PRIME MINISTER SATO WAS FOLLOWING UNITED STATES' POLICY IN SOUTH VIETNAM AND THIS AMERICAN "AGGRESSION" SHOULD BE REJECTED BY THE JAPANESE PEOPLE.

    A HIGH SCHOOL GIRL ADDRESSED THE RALLY AND APPEALED FOR PEACE IN VIETNAM IN THE NAME OF HUMANITY.THE DEMONSTRATORS CHEERED HER.

    AFTER THE MEETING IN A HALL THE DEMONSTRATORS MARCHED TO THE DIET (PARLIAMENT BUILDING) CHANTING SLOGANS AGAINST U.S.INVOLVEMENT IN SOUTH VIETNAM.
