    The crew of Apollo-14, due to be launched for the moon on 31st January, rehearsed the departure procedure in a week-long dummy countdown at Cape Kennedy, Florida, United States. They went through full medical and technical tests and were taken out to the launching pads, up in the lift to the gantry and into their space capsule.

    The crew of Apollo-14, Captain Alan B. Shepard, commander of the spacecraft, Commander Edgar D. Mitchell, pilot of the lunar module, and Major Stuart A Roosa, pilot of the command module, leave for the moon on Sunday evening (31st January). Commander Mitchell hopes to put his lunar module down on the surface of the moon near the Fra Mauro Crater on 5th February. He and Captain Shepard will stay on the moon for 33 hours.
