  • Description

BRITAIN AND YUGOSLAVIA TODAY (MONDAY) OPENED TALKS ON THEIR SEPARATE EFFORTS TO HELP GET A MIDDLE EAST SETTLEMENT FOLLOWING THE ARAB-ISRAELI WAR IN JUNE.

THE YUGOSLAV FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. MARKO NIKEZIC, FLEW INTO LONDON FROM BELGRADE TODAY FOR A FIVE-DAY VISIT. HE IMMEDIATELY HELD A PRELIMINARY TALK WITH THE BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY, MR. GEORGE BROWN.

YUGOSLAVIA HAS PLAYED A SPECIAL ROLE AS A LEADING NON-ALIGNED NATION, AND PRESIDENT TITO HAS HELD INTENSIVE TALKS WITH ARAB AND BOTH EAST AND WEST EUROPEAN LEADERS ON THE PROBLEM.

MR. NIKEZIC'S VISIT COINCIDES WITH NEW BRITISH ATTEMPTS TO IMPROVE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC.

THE YUGOSLAV FOREIGN MINISTER, IN MORE LENGTHY TALKS WITH MR. BROWN TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY, IS ALSO EXPECTED TO DISCUSS DISARMAMENT, EUROPEAN SECURITY AND THE VIETNAM WAR.
