  • Description

NEARLY 5,000 MEMBERS OF THE RIGHT-WING JANA SANGH PARADED THROUGH NEW DELHI STREETS YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) IN PROTEST AGAINST INDIAN TROOP WITHDRAWALS FROM THE FRONTIER WITH PAKISTAN. THE WITHDRAWALS WERE AGREED TO BY INDIA AND PAKISTAN AT THEIR MEETING ON THE KASHMIR DISPUTE AT TASHKENT, IN SOVIET CENTRAL ASIA, LAST MONTH.

THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED BANNERS AND SHOUTED SLOGANS AGAINST THE TASHKENT AGREEMENT. OUTSIDE INDIA'S PARLIAMENT HOUSE, THEY CALLED UPON MEMBERS TO REJECT THE AGREEMENT, AND SPEAKERS URGED THE ASSEMBLED CROWD TO BE READY FOR EVEN GREATER SACRIFICES IN DEFENCE OF INDIAN KASHMIR AND THE COUNTRY GENERALLY.

(THE TASHKENT MEETING, WHICH WAS HELD UNDER THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF MR. KOSYGIN, THE PRIME MINISTER, WAS ATTENDED BY MR. SHASTRI, THE INDIAN PRIME MINISTER, AND PRESIDENT AYUB KHAN OF PAKISTAN. MR. SHASTRI DIED AFTER A HEART ATTACK IN TASHKENT FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF THE TALKS.)
