    French President Georges Pompidou laid a wreath at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on Thursday (11 November) in the traditional ceremony marking the anniversary of the armistice signed at the end of World War One. The ceremonies, which were watched by veterans of the 1914-1918 war, took place at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier.

    SYNOPSIS: The Arc de Triomphe in Paris was the scene of Thursday for the traditional French ceremony marking the anniversary of the armistice signed at the end of the First World War. President Gorges Pompidou, accompanied by high government officials, took part in the commemoration at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier. The President laid a wreath at the tomb. M.. Pompidou also reviewed troops drawn up for the occasion. With him were Prime Minister Jacques Chaban-Delmas and the Minister of Defence Michel Debre.

    The President's wreath was one among many from numerous sources at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A number came from veterans' organisations. There were many veterans of the 1914-1918 war watching the ceremonies. Later, M. Pompidou greeted some of them.
