  • Description

Tens of thousands of women liberationists marched through the streets of New York, Washington and other cities in the U.S.A. on Thursday (August 26) to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the day women were given a vote in American politics. In New York, about 6,000 marched down Fifth Avenue -- disrupting proceedings at the Stock Exchange and demanding representation there; praying at the steps of Saint Patrick's Cathedral; and raiding advertising agencies in protest at the use of sex to sell commercial products. They carried banners demanding a variety of civil rights, and although there were some scuffles with police on route, no serious disturbances were reported.
