    IT WAS THE SECOND DIVING GOLD MEDAL FOR ITALY IN THE DIVING AS THEY HAD WON THE MEN'S SPRINGBOARD TITLE EARLIER IN THE COMPETITION. DIBIASI, WHO WAS FOURTH IN THE SPRING BOARD EVENT, WON THE HIGHBOARD TITLE EASILY WITH A TOTAL OF 168.46 POINTS. KEITH RUSSELL OF THE UNITED STATES, WHO HAD BEEN SECOND IN THE SPRINGBOARD, HAD TO BE CONTENT WITH ANOTHER SILVER MEDAL. ARIMETZU YASUKE OF JAPAN WAS THIRD.

    THE WOMEN'S HIGHBOARD WAS THE SECOND DIVING TRIUMPH FOR THE RUSSIAN GIRLS AS THEY HAD WON THE SPRINGBOARD GOLD AND SILVER MEDAL. A 21-YEAR-OLD MOSCOW STUDENT, GALINA ALEKSEYENA, WON THE HIGHBOARD TITLE BY MORE THAN EIGHT POINTS. SHE HAD A TOTAL OF 111.37 WITH MISS A. KEIKO OF JAPAN SECOND ON 103.06 POINTS. THIRD WAS PATTY SIMMS OF THE UNITED STATES.
