    The United States and Soviet Union announced their future cooperation in cancer research at a press conference in Washington on Friday (12 February). As well as pooling knowledge on cancer, the two countries will link forces in examining heart disease and environmental health under a new Joint Committee.

    American Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, Elliet L. Richardson - a signatory of the new agreement - said it could benefit all mankind. Soviet Ambassador to Washington, Jacob Debrynin, added that Journalists and Diplomats - among the greatest sufferers of heart disease and cancer - would be particularly helped.

    The first session of the Joint Committee is scheduled to be held next month.

    SYNOPSIS: Soviet-American cooperation in the field of cancer research was announced in Washington on Friday. Soviet Ambassador to the capital and American Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, Elliot L. Richardson outlined the new agreement. Mr Richardson, who signed it spoke first.
