VISNEWS filmed the thrilling two day Hahnenkamm Alpine Combination ski race on the snowy slopes of Kitzbuehel, Austrian Tyrol, Jan 17-18th. The Hahnenkamm is one the World's greatest ski races open to all World class racers from every country, 83 racers from 15 countries participated in this years event. Weather was fine--course fast--snow conditions good, in fact perfect for the high speed action to come.
Downhill event Jan 17 was won by American Bud Werner in 2 mins 33.4 secs. Second was Roger Staub (Switzerland) and third Austria's karl Schranz. High speeds were attained during the race. Competitors jumped through the 'Mouse Trap' at speeds over 60 m.p.h.
Winner of the Mens Slalom event Jan 13 was Anderl Molterer of Austria, the eventual winner of the two day Combination with a total of 1.37 points. An Austrian has won the Hahnenkamm Combination for the past 34 years. First four places in the Slalom were filled by Austrian Bud Werner, winner of the Downhill race crashed during his second run.
Second place in the Hahnenkamm Combination was gained by E. Zimmerman (Austria) 3.56 points and third J. Vuarnet of France with 4.51 points.
