Background: VISNEWS filmed the Ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim al Sabah, arriving at Al Kuwait airport from Beirut. He received the traditional kiss of greeting from his uncle and probable successor, Sheikh Abdullah Al Mubarak al Sabah, Chief of Security and Army Minister.
Kuwait, oil rich island in the Persian Gulf, continues in a precarious position-lying under the influence of UAR President Nasser. Both the Ruler and his uncle have conferred with Nasser 'to increase friendly ties between the two nations'. The uncle, whose views that 'Kuwait is part of the Arab nation' are well known, is recognised as having more influence than the Ruler over the 200,000 mostly pro-Nasser Moslems in the Sheikhdom.
As Kuwait controls just over half the crude oil imported into Britain, the British Government view with concern recent Egyptian attempts to manoeuvre the annulment of the 1899 British Protection Treaty.
