    Background: About 5,000 left-wing students converged in Rome on Wednesday (23 February) to demonstrate at the opening of the trial of Pietro Valpreda, a 39-year-old former television dancer who is alleged to have placed a bomb in a Milan bank in 1969 which killed 16 people and injured 86. In the dock with Valpreda are three other anarchists charged with him for responsibility for the Milan attack and three other explosions in Rome on the same day which injured 18 people.
