    THE CONGO REPUBLIC'S SECOND CULTURAL WEEK HAS ENDED IN BRAZZAVILLE, WITH A DAY OF DANCING AND PRESENTATION OF AWARDS. AT LEAST 1,700 PERFORMERS TOOK PART IN THE WEEK'S CELEBRATIONS.

    THE THEME OF THE WEEK WAS "TO BE CONGOLESE AND INDUSTRIOUS." THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM ALL PARTS OF THE REPUBLIC TRAVELLED TO BRAZZAVILLE FOR THE CELEBRATIONS.

    THE CITY'S REVOLUTION STADIUM WAS A COLOURFUL SIGHT AS FOLK DANCERS AND SINGERS FROM ALL OVER THE CONGO REPUBLIC PERFORMED IN THE CLIMAX TO THE WEEK'S EVENTS.

    PRESIDENT ALPHONSE MASSAMBA-DEBAT HAD EARLIER EMPHASISED THAT THE CONGOLESE PEOPLE SHOULD ABANDON WESTERN MENTAL HABITS AND RETURNS TO THEIR OWN NATIONAL CULTURE.

    THE MAJOR AWARD FOR THE WEEK WAS THE INTER-AFRICAN THEATRE PRIZE, WHICH WENT TO M. GUY MENGA, DIRECTOR OF THE VOICE OF CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE RADIO.
