  • Description

The method by which two Gemini Astronauts will be brought safely to earth after orbiting through space was successfully tested 28 January for the sixth successive time.

The test was conducted for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration which hopes to put the two Astronauts into orbit in April.

In this test the capsule was carried to 33,000 feet in an airplane. It was dropped at that altitude and when it descended to 27,000 feet a drogue parachute deployed to stabilize the spacecraft. At 10,600 feet the drogue was cut loose and the main parachute opened. The spacecraft then descended ??? to the ground.

The parachute recovery system has also been tested in a sub-orbital unmanned rocket launch.
