  • Description

At the United National Security Council session in Addis Ababa, Britain vetoed a resolution aimed at blocking the proposed Anglo-Rhodesian settlement.

The resolution had been proposed earlier by Sudan, Somalis and Guinea (see Visnews Production No. 1533/72). The voting came Friday evening after the United Kingdom delegate Sir Colin Crowe had explained Britain's position on the issue.

It was Britain's fifth veto on the Rhodesia question. The Soviet Union and the Chinese People's Republic voted for the resolution, together with Guinea, India, Somalis, Sudan, Argentina, Panama and Yugoslavia. The United States, France, Italy, Belgium and Japan abstained.
