    The new crisis in the United States over Watergate has disrupted the parliamentary session of North Atlantic Treaty countries which opened in Turkey on Sunday (21st October). The 12-man team from the U.S. House of Representatives decided to fly home on Monday without attending the 19th annual parliamentary session. Five U.S. senators have decided to stay on until they receive more information from Washington on the events which led to the dismissal of the independent Watergate prosecutor, and the resignation of the Attorney-General.

    Parliamentarians from all the NATO member countries except Greece attended the opening session on Sunday (21st October) in the Turkish capital, Ankara. The delegates are to discuss various subjects, but the most important issue is expected to be the proposal from the U.S. Secretary of State, Dr Kissinger, to give a new dimension to the Alliance by changing its structure and expanding its scope. The United States delegates were to present a report on European American relations, which is said to be the first draft of what could become an Atlantic declaration.

    The President, Sir John Peel, is chairing the meeting.

    SYNOPSIS: The 19th session of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's parliamentary body began in the Turkish capital, Ankara on Sunday as the 12 man team from the U.S. House of Representatives decided to return home.

    The President, sir John Peel opened proceedings. Five U.S. Senators have decided to stay, until they receive more information from Washington on the crisis over the dismissal of the independent Watergate prosecutor and the resignation of the Attorney-General.

    Various subjects are to be discussed at the week-long meeting including the proposals put forward by the U.S. Secretary of state, Dr. Kissinger. He has suggested changing the structure of NATO and expanding its scope. The United states delegation was also to present a report on European American relations.
