  • Description

Britain's postal workers today (Sunday, 7 March) ended their pay strike which has left the country without mail for six and a half weeks. It was Britain's longest official strike since the end of the war. The strikers voted overwhelmingly to let their claim be decided by a court of inquiry. They will find an estimated 11 million letters waiting for them to deliver when they resume work on Monday (8 March) and it is expected it will take about five weeks for the service to return to normal. The Postal Union Leader, Mr. Tom Jackson, said today that members expected to get a much better pay offer as a result of the inquiry, but this seems far from certain.
