    Victims of this week's rocket attack on the capital of the Khmer Republic, Phnom Penh, were buried after a mass funeral in the city on Wednesday (22 March).

    The week has seen a sharp increase in fighting close to Phone Penh and on Tuesday more than 60 people were killed and 130 wounded when Communist forces launched their biggest assault on the city.

    In a speech to his people the President of the Khmer Republic, Marshal Lon Nol called for a redoubling of efforts towards a military victory. He said the Communist attack was made possible by subversive elements inside Phnom Penh.

    SYNOPSIS: The human misery of war. This was the scene in the capital of the Khmer Republic, Phnom Penh on Wednesday as the victims of a Communist artillery attack were buried. The attack was the biggest launched against the city by Communist forces and killed more than sixty people - many in a residential part of the city.

    Among the dead were women and children. President Lon Nol has said the attack was made possible by what he described as "subversive elements" inside the city.
