  • Description

Austria gained a surprise three goals to nil victory over the fabulous Spanish team before a crowd of 90,000 in Vienna Oct 30.

Spain were the first to score, when outside-left Gento netted the ball in the eight minute. But referee Dienst of Switzerland declared him offside and the goal was disallowed.

After thirty-four minutes of comparatively mediocre play, Senekowitsch, Austria's inside-left scored. The crowd roared with delight. This was followed by a period of livelier soccer, but the score remained at 1-0 until half-time.

Twenty-two minutes after play resumed, Nemeo (Austrian outside-right) kicked the ball out of Spanish goalkeeper Ramallets' hands into the net. Referee Dienst ruled that he had fouled the goalkeeper and gave a free kick to Spain.

Ten minutes later Nemec made sure by scoring Austria's second goal, and this time there was no mistake. Then followed one of the fastest goals ever scored against Spain. From the kick-off after Nemec's goal the ball was taken from the Spanish forwards and passed to Austrian inside-right Hof who headed past the astonished Ramallets..all within one minute.
