TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER: "There was nothing left of the wooden two storey building when dawn broke. The home was privately operated and two people were on duty, Mrs. Louis Dumphry (phonetic spelling) and her daughter. Both escaped and are in hospital under sedation. Officials are still trying to establish how many of the residents were in the building....whether there were visitors, grand children staying over on holiday. Some of the residents of the home were very elderly. One whose body was found was one hundred and five years old. The fire started close to three o'clock in the morning and it must have spread fiercely through the building. The area has no water supply and firemen had to cut through six inches of ice in a nearby pond. Throughout the reminded of this Boxing day, the traditional day for visiting families in Newfoundland, police and firemen combed the ashes. An early report that the fire may have started in the vicinity of a propane tank is being more or less discounted. More likely, officials believe, the fire started in an upstairs room in the 60 year old building. Buddy Gregg, C.B.C. News, Saint Johns."
