  • Description

The 347-ton Greek ship 'Astypalea' - detained at Port Said on the Suez Canal by Egyptian authorities since December 27, 1959, for carrying an Israel cargo - unloaded at Port Said April 9, and left for Piraeus, Athens, April 10.

Like the more famous Danish 'Inge Toft' - held at Port Said for 9 months - she was carrying cement; if her cargo follows the fate of the 'Inge Toft's' it will be sold to help Arab refugees from Palestine.

United Arab Republic claims that a state of war still exists between her and Israel, and confiscation of Israeli goods is legitimate; President Nasser has also been audiences that no Israeli cargoes will ever pass through the Suez Canal.
