A spokesman for the army said on Thursday (January 23) that the recruiting quota for the last six months had been exceeded and as a result the advertising drive and quota system would have to be cut.
Many of the new recruits openly admit that they are joining the army so they wont have to pay for college or university studies. They army can do that. The recruits say they are willing to learn to kill, but in return the army will teach them a trade.
Other recruits admit they are joining the army because they can't find a job in civilian life due to the economic problems facing many industries.
For the first time for many years, the army says it can now pick and choose would be recruits.
