SYNOPSIS: France joins a growing list of countries which include the USA and India who have staged demonstrations against the Shah's regime. On Monday (11 September) in an interview with the French newspaper, Le Monde, former Iranian Prime Minister Ali Amini alleged that more than 2,000 people had been killed by troops during the anti-government demonstrations in Iran.

Among the leaders of the march was M. Georges Marchais, leader of the French Communist party and M. Georges Seguy, Secretary-General of the Confederation Generale du Travail, (CGT), the Fronch Trades Union leader. Placards carried by the marchers denounced the Shah's regime, and all the marchers wore stickers on their lapels. The march was from the place do la Republique to the Place do la Bastille, the square which commemorates France's own revolution against an oppressive monarchy. The demonstrators also accused the French government of compliance by their lack of condemnation of the Shah, and called on the French people to express their indignation.

Some of the marchers wore shrouds covered in realistic looking blood, and chained themselves together, while other carried placards with pictures of the dead and of executions.

The Iranian Government's official estimate for the death-toll is 97.
