  • Description

The Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation (B.B.C.), Mr. Charles Curran, has warned that the rest of the world might not be able to watch the 1976 Olympic Games if the United States television companies keep forcing the cost up. Mr. Curren gave his warning in a speech at the annual "Emmy" television awards ceremony in New York on Tuesday (November 20th).

Mr. Curren, who is also President of the European Television Union, received an award at the ceremony on behalf of the E.B.U. It was the first annual directorate award which was made in recognition of "outstanding achievement in the arts and sciences or management of television". Mr. Curran said he would be attending a similar function in Moscow next week, and he would not be surprised if someone suggested that the International Broadcasting Unions should join collectively to resist what hey see as "North American Financial censorship".

SYNOPSIS: At Tuesday's Emmy television award ceremony in New York, B.B.C. Director-General, Mr. Charles Curran, spoke about the coming Olympic Games.
