Background: As part of Senegal's independence anniversary celebrations, the nation is being invited to take a closer look at its armed forces,and this week has been named Armed Forces Week. As part of this six-day event, President Leopold Senghor attended the opening of an army exhibition at Camp Dial Diop, near Dakar.
When he paid the visit, President Senghor was accompanied by the Senegal Minister of the Armed Forces, M.Karim Gueye and was conducted around the camp and its exhibitions by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, General Jean-Alfred Diallo.
During the tour, the President inspected motorised units and saw Army engineers at work.
The purpose of the Armed Forces Week is to demonstrate to Senegal's people more about their army, is organisation and the education and social levels it achieves.
The exhibitions at Camp Dial Diop show some of the materials and weapons used by various units of the Armed Forces, and included live exhibits and photographs. The other section of the display consist of demonstrations by gymnasts, motorcyclists and the National Gendarmerie.
