American Black Leader Reverend Jesse Jackson arrived in Israel today to begin his mission t rough the Middle East on Behalf of the American People.
Rev. Jesse Jackson: America will not forsake Israel ???) because of a moral commitment 2) substantial economic investment to the tune of 5 million dollar a day (rubbish) 3) because of GO politics of the region 4) military reasons 5) reasons of world peace. There is a commitment here an yet we what to be heard as Blacks become more assertive in Foreign Policy we reserve the right to challenge given positions to challenge judgement and this agreement must not be seen as tantamount to anti semitism we simply reserve that right. Recognize Israel's existence. We have a humane concern for the plight of the palestinian people. W regard the PLO as the ??? bargaining agent of that body of people somehow Israel must support America. Israel must Trust America and in trusting America Israel must take the initiative to relieve our nation of a gag policy or a no talk policy that renders America unable to protect her own interests-America can not protect the interests of her allies America must be free in the Mid East and trusted to reconcile her general interests. America is very capable using her diplomatic and economic ??? in this country to bring about a new and lasting pea
Question by Bill Seaman of ABC: When you mention the Black controversy in Congress ??? relating to this problem were you ??? recognition of the PLO would possibly become an issue in the American presidential campaign,
Jackson: It's already a very critical factor I would say that by the present election the issue would be resolved I think America might not have 12 months to wait to struggle to reconcile the various interests in the Mid East.
