ACTION AGAINST THE "SQUATTERS" FOLLOWED STATEMENTS BY KENYA'S PRIME MINISTER MR. JOMO KENYATTA THAT FIRM MEASURES WOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST THEM. MRS. JOHANSON SAID 8O HAD BEEN ARRESTED ON HER FARM. OF THESE, ONLY 12 WERE IN HER EMPLOY.

THE POLICE RAIDS ON THE "SQUATTERS" WERE MADE DURING THE NIGHT HOURS. IN RECENT MONTHS THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS TO THE AUTHORITIES THAT THE "SQUATTERS" STIRRED UP TROUBLE AMONG FARM EMPLOYEES. THEY WERE ALSO HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEFTS OF CATTLE AND SHEEP.
